Lol. I do both in mine (though it's rather new for the moment and there aren't many entries-I lost the password to my old journal a couple years back) though I might make a separate journal for writing later.
I envy anyone who has the devotion and patience to write fanfics; I tried (verrry briefly) and didn't feel comfortable enough with my knowledge of Bleach to actually continue. So instead I lurk and comment and occasionally beta (I'm an English major who is lucky enough to find a nearby school with an excellent writing program on the Undergrad level; I may not be up to speed on what's canon or if a character is IC or OOC, but I can certainly pick apart plot holes and offer concrit as to a character's actions and motivations if I have an idea of where an author is going with a storyline *grins*) and squee like mad when I read something that really packs a punch.
I also write long ass messages about anything under the sun and go off on tangents--I love good convo and don't get too much in RL. *grins*
